As a component of your acquiring bank relationship, you will be provided with access to any fraud alerts that might be generated as a result of transactions carried out by your clients. Fraud alerts, sometimes referred to as TC40 and SAFE, are card-scheme segregated reports generated by the issuing banks that detail transactions flagged as being potentially fraudulent. These serve as an opportunity for merchants to review the flagged transaction, and to make an informed decision with regards to the course of action you wish to take.

While internal monitoring is essential to the longevity of any organisation, it is often true that merchants require the assistance of an external third-party solution provider. Axcess has relationships with many fraud and chargeback mitigation package providers. These solutions tend to fall into two categories:

  • Up-front fraud prevention suites – These suites tend to analyse transactions before they are fully processed, thus allowing them to flag or even reject a pending order. They incorporate features such as the ability to blacklist cards, comparison against known fraud databases, and built-in transaction velocity checks.
  • Back-end early alerts – These typically operate as an early chargeback alert. They often offer the merchant the option of refunding the transaction rather than the card-issuing bank initiating a chargeback on their client’s behalf.
